Young bald eagles have brown feathers and are referred to as "plumage". They don't mature into (the colors of) a full adult until about 4-5yrs of age

I saw this eagle out of the corner of my eye and this isn't a well composed image but it was still so cool to see
The interesting thing is that eagles pair for life. And they have a strong nest site fidelity meaning they will probably live on this lake (or cluster of lakes) for the rest of their lives.
"A pair might choose to build a new nest in a different area if their previous nest was unproductive (failed to fledge eaglets) or otherwise proved unsuitable."
